Our Team

Welcome to QUANTista! We make quantum physics a playful, hands-on experience! Together with researchers from TU Braunschweig, the University of Stuttgart, and SRH Universities Berlin, and in cooperation with the publisher Skellig Games, we are developing a board game that brings together science and fun.

Prof. Dr. Stefanie Kroker

Prof. Dr. Tobias Voß

Prof. Dr. Ronny Nawrodt

Prof. Dr. Jens Junge

Stefanie is a physicist and conducts research at the Technical University of Braunschweig on applications of nano-optical systems for quantum technologies. Communicating complex content is close to her heart and was the starting point for the board game project ‘QUANTista’. Her favourite games? – Probably Azul and Dominion.

Tobias studied physics at Clausthal University of Technology and coordinates the project’s processes and outreach. The moments in the project he enjoys most are when the first test players visibly enjoy the game. In his free time, he likes to fly, work on his model railway or go for walks with his dog. His favourite games are Heckmeck am Bratwurmeck, Scythe, Gloomhaven and always new discoveries.

Ronny is a physicist and coordinates the project’s activities in Stuttgart. With his experience in physics education, he develops learning materials and concepts for schools and works closely with teachers – also drawing on his own experience as an active teacher at a school in Stuttgart. At the Stuttgart site, he also runs a student laboratory where modern physics topics are brought to life for schools.

Jens is a professor of game science and head of the Institute for Ludology. In the project, he is responsible for public relations and controlling. His favourite moment in the project was definitely the VDI meeting at the Residenzschloss Altenburg. When he’s not researching or talking about games, he reads comics or plays games himself, preferably board games.

Dr. Liam Shelling Neto

Liam is a postdoctoral researcher in the field of AI-supported design of nano-optical components at the Technical University of Braunschweig. In the project, he works on the card game and coordinates the Braunschweig team. His hobbies include collecting Pokémon cards and he is a passionate video gamer. Closely linked to this is his interest in board games, with communicative games such as ‘Temple of Terror’ at the top of his list.

Mika Gaedtke

Mika is a doctoral candidate at the Technical University of Braunschweig. He has been passionate about both board games and video games since childhood. Some of these games, such as Runescape, have been with him for almost 20 years and are an integral part of his life. In the ‘QUANTista’ project, he is responsible for the game concepts, where he can perfectly contribute his experience and passion.

Barbara Szafranski

Barbara is a doctoral student at the Technical University of Braunschweig. In her free time, she enjoys sports: she plays badminton and volleyball, especially beach volleyball at the lake in summer, goes running regularly and works out at the gym. She also shows enthusiasm and team spirit when playing games: she particularly enjoys playing Settlers of Catan, Bohnanza and Monopoly. In the project, she is responsible for outreach.

Leon Müller

Leon is pursuing his doctorate at the Technical University of Braunschweig and is passionate about strategic and cooperative games. His favourites include Settlers of Catan, Hitster, Skat and Doppelkopf. In addition to gaming, he is also enjoys sports – whether it’s football, road cycling, skiing, weight training or cooking. In the QUANTista project, he is responsible for optimising the card game and procuring the prototypes..

Kim Kappl

Kim is a PHD student in the Stuttgart group and is looking into how quantum physics and quantum technologies can be communicated in a way that is understandable to teachers, students and the general public. She is therefore also responsible for science communication in the project. Her favourite game is ganz schön clever.

Niklas Potthast

Niklas works as a research assistant at SRH Berlin. His focus is on the theoretical and practical exploration of game mechanics as a means of scientific communication. At the same time, he is completing his master’s degree in game and media education. Niklas is involved in the development of the board game. In his free time, he enjoys playing chess.

Afonso Alcape Meyer

Afonso works as a student assistant on the project. He is passionate about video games and board games, especially strategy and communication games such as Risk, Settlers of Catan and Civilisation VI. He plays handball and enjoys following various sports. In the project Afonso is involved in optimising the card game .

Mara Meinzer

Mara is a student assistant on the project. She is involved in optimising the card game and takes on design tasks. Her favourite games are Settlers of Catan, Backgammon and Hitster – anything that combines tactics and luck. In addition to game nights in her shared flat, Mara likes to do sports, drink coffee or take care of her houseplants.
